One of the events of the Mayan Calendar, 3 days of darkness predicitions, is that animals will be "lowing"...or going to the ground and hunkering down. As you can see with our dogs...how will we know? They are "lowing" most of the time...on any calendar.
That is Luca at the top on the red carpet...he is from the Toledo Area Humane Society...he is a husky/rat terrier mix that we got almost 3 years ago. The demon dog in the middle is our newest addition...Teddy...a rescue from Best Friends 4Ever...he is 2 years old and is a sheltie/golden retriever mix...and is incorrigible. And that beautiful German shepherd is the ol' man of the group...8 yr. old Kyzer.
I consider them part of my treatment team as I go through my chemo therapy. My husband has even threatened to drive them to the Hickman Center Cancer Center and bring them to the window to see me as I am hooked up to my IV. Unfortunately, the excitement would probably be too much for the doggies...and who knows what havoc they would wreak. The beautiful garden outside the Hickman Center would never be the same.
Do my dogs know what is going on with me? Totally. Just last week I was trying to move Teddy from my spot on the bed...and I must have nudged him a bit too vigorously because he jumped up and barked at me...at which point, Luca, the calmest of all of them...jumped up and barked at Teddy. That has never happened before. I suspect, Luca,( who is kind of my doggy) was just trying to tell Teddy...you idiot, don't you know she is not feeling well today.
My daughter took a photo of the dogs and framed it for us...and she wrote a great quote on the frame...
Dogs are not our whole life...but they make our lives whole.
