As I bid a fond farewell to my chemo treatment team at the Hickman Center...I have but one thought..."I never want to see you people again!" Just kidding! Couldn't have done this without the expert care and compassion of the nurses and staff who worked tirelessly with me to get me through my treatments safely and comfortably. Kathy was my nurse during my first treatment...and for subsequent chemo, if she wasn't my nurse, she would always come and check in on me and say hi. We would share stories about our teenage sons. And Ann was my nurse for several of my treatments...including the last one. We've traded many stories about our children and the books we love. I love these people...they made me feel very special. And when I watched them interact with other patients I saw first hand how special they made everybody feel. It's a gift...especially for those of us who are not feeling well or positive...or just having a bad day. And they rejoice with us when things are going well.
Oh, I will see them all again, off and on. I still have aftercare treatment that will take several years...CAT scans, PET scans, bloodwork, check up exams and such. And I have promised to always stop by and say hello and let them know how I am doing. Because, I truly believe they continue to care about me and my future.
